The immune responses are finely regulated by lymphocyte T cells called regulatory T cells. Their quantitative or qualitative deficiency may lead to vigorous immune responses, leading to autoimmune diseases or transplant rejection after organ transplantation. We use gene therapy to restore these deficient cells or to direct their specific protective response to an organ. Optimized and targeted regulatory cell therapy would eliminate the long-term use of immunosuppressive drugs, associated with an increased risk of infections and cancers.
